AnythingElse: I have used is practice for several years as its close and accepts NHS patients. Unfortunately a succession of appointments have been cancelled by the dentists, some in writing so obviously not due to illness and no alternative appointment offered. I had a root canal at this practice which was unsuccessful and now I need a re-root canal done. I was not offered an NHS option but was instead referred to a private practice that charged me £650! I complained and have since discovered that Emersons Green Dental Practice have been charging me a combination of NHS and private prices. I was never made aware by staff that I was paying above the NHS charges and paid in good faith.
AnythingElse: I've been visiting this dentist for several years and to be honest only go because it's NHS and local. The dental work seems ok and the dental staff are pleasant enough but it's the reception staff that really let the place down. They are rude, ignore you, and are unpleasant if you are late or even think about missing an appointment but don't give a damn if your appointment is even an hour late. Twice running, despite having my appointment in the diary for well over 5 months they rang me a week before and said the dentist couldn't make it as they're going on holiday!!!! Surely they must have planned that more than a week in advance.
AnythingElse: Reception staff need some customer service training - I am sure I am invisible when I go in there, as ignored for several minutes, a smile would be nice too!!! NHS prices are not displayed as they should be - I had to ask for them - why do you have to pay up front for treatment?? why can't you have teeth cleaned with you NHS check up as stated in NHS leaflet. Another waiting patient had an apology for being kept waiting 50 mins! The dentist told me my gums needed attention, the hygienist told me my gums were fine after I paid £50 to see her privately, my feeling is they only want to treat private patients.
AnythingElse: We recently visited the dental practise (myself , my husband and my three children). We were seen on time and the receptionist was very helpful. Our dentist was lovely and was very kind and patient with all my children. Overall a good visit and would recomend to friends and new patients.
AnythingElse: I see one of the dentists and I really appreciate their thoroughness, politeness and the fact that they want to prevent long term issues rather than waiting for them to rear their heads in a check up one day. My issue with this practice is the reception staff and the bizarre lunch time closing ritual that they adopt. Everytime I attend this surgery the recption staff chatter away while I stand at the desk, without acknowledgment. This continues until they have finished their chatter (whether work or social related). When they do eventually acknowledge me, there is nevr an apology for the wait or any kind of courteous conversation. I find them dismissive and rude and can only assume that they've forgotten they're in a customer facing role and need to adopt some customer service. Regarding lunch time closing; no one answers the phone at lunch time (although you can leave a message) and they lock the doors 1-2 so if you arrive early or perhaps even finish your appointment after 12 you need to wait for them to unlock the doors to let you in or out. It's very bizarre and I don't understand why they can't do what every other business that employees more than 1 worker does - alternate your breaks!?
Improved: Receptionist was very rude and aggressive - I am making a complaint about it to PCT NHS South Gloustershire. Also the dentist did not do a thourough check up and did not find any problems with my teeth. However, I attended two different dental centres and I have been told that there are major problems with my crown and I also need two fillings. I do advise to go to a different clinic for a second opinion as the dentist in Emersons Green is not very experienced.
Liked: Near to the house.
Improved: It was my first visit to the dentist, and my last one. The reception staff was very rude to me, speaking on mobile phone discussing personal matters while I was waiting for their response. Whenever I tried to speak to them they kept repeating they were busy. I am now taking my complaints further and want this matter to be investigated. Therefore, customer service is not very good at this clinic. The dentist was very polite and nice, however not very experienced and was not very confident what they were doing. I hope my comments will help.
Improved: How come as a patient, you get threatened with dire actions if you are late but it is perfectly acceptable for them to keep you waiting for 40 mins? Also no compassion from the staff to any patient about allowing people to wait inside when it's minus degrees outside. Sc ale and polishes are only available if you pay for this privately with the Hygienist.
Liked: I have to say how very pleased i am with the care and treatment that my son and myself have received from this dental practice. As a parent it can be very distressing to see your child in pain or discomfort and it is important for child and parent to feel at ease. I was a little aprehensive before our visit this morning as my seven yr old was having a tooth extracted. No need, the dentist and the dental assistant were fantastic!! From start to finish No tears, No fuss and it was over. I truly believe that this was down the friendly manner and trust that has been built up at each visit that resulted in a positive and calm outcome. This comment has been written by a very proud and pleased mum! :)
Liked: The dentist explained precisely throughout the process just what they were going to do before doing it. They also alerted me to some likely pain and invited me to raise my hand if the pain was too much. They frequently asked that I was Ok throughout the 45 minute procedure. They were caring and very professional. I have never before had a simpler or less pain free injection ever before and I was able to relax during the procedure. Well done to them and their nurse.
Improved: The waiting time
Liked: Check-up was conducted quickly and professionally
Improved: Waiting time to get an appointment is excessive.
AnythingElse: Scale & polish was not offered under the same Band 1 charge of £17 with an examination. We're told we need to book a private appointment with their hygienist & pay £30 to make an appointment. Are our new dentists allowed to do this? Seems like very sharp practice to me
